This website is the portal of the Greek Society for the Study of Culture and Religion, which aims to monitor the research and academic developments in the study of religion in national, and international levels, communicating these developments to those interested in academic research on this field. At the same time, it aims to operate as a place that would keep posted and familiarize visitors on the main issues and progresses in the field, but also as a means of interaction and evolution of the scientific study of religion in Greece.

Τhe establishment of the Greek Society for the Study of Culture and Religion (GSSCR) in 2003, on an initiative of Professor Panayiotis Pachis, was an Important breakthrough in the effort, taking place in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, to track international developments and progresses in the theories, methods and approaches to religious phenomena and behaviours.  This Society was, coupled with the International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR) in Tokyo in 2005. In June 2006, an international conference, entitled Society in Transition. The Interdisciplinary Study of Religion in Modern Reality, took place in Thessaloniki in the context of this union.
